This Saturday,  March 2nd we in the Hudson Valley Irish Center (HVIC) are hosting  a Round Table discussion with our Historians & Librarians  at 210 6th Street, Verplanck.

The main purpose of this meeting is to organize, structure and develop a fully functioning Irish Cultural Library at the Hudson Valley Irish Center. To date a beautiful set of oak book shelves have been installed by Cathal McGreal of Hibernian Wood Design.

Many boxes of books have been donated by the Irish Echo editor Ray O’Hanlon and his wife Lisa, also Colonel Robert Bateman, and HVIF cofounder Ray Bermingham and others from their private collections.

In addition to organizing the Library we should initiate a series of “Lectures on Irish History” at the Hudson Valley Irish Center and at the other AOH & LAOH Centers throughout Westchester County.

Dan Dennehy, Chairman of the Hudson Valley Irish Fest Inc. said, ” Entering the 5th Anniversary year of our Hudson Valley Fest, we are delighted to have this  year round Irish Cultural Center where we are able to host an Irish American cultural library and some of our regions great historians, musicians and writers. We look forward to another exciting year of programs here at the Hudson Valley Irish Center and at the Fest on Saturday, September 21st.”

Fourth ANNUAL IRISH FEST SET FOR PEEKSKILL

The Hudson Valley Irish Fest returns to Peekskill’s Riverfront Green on Saturday, September 22, 2012.

The community-based, not for profit cultural event was established to celebrate and promote the rich Irish-American heritage that exists in the lower Hudson Valley.

Each year about 3,000 people attended the festival and promoters are promising bigger and better things this year.

The fourth annual Fest will run from 11a.m. to 7 p.m. and our main stage will feature music by recording artists Black 47 and Jameson’s Revenge, Rockland County’s all female band – Girsa, local artist Tim Murphy and — direct from Ireland — Just 2, as well as our famous massed pipe bands.

The 2012 Fest will feature the Jack McAndrews Memorial Cultural Tent featuring arts, historical displays along with talented local Irish step dancers and the finest traditional Irish musicians in the Hudson Valley. “Jack McAndrew kept traditional music sessions alive for many decades. Even though the legendary Guinan’s at Garrison Landing is gone, Jack’s Rising of the Moon session is still alive and this tent will help us all keep Jack’s memory alive for us all.” said Dan Dennehy, Chair of the Hudson Valley Irish Fest Inc.

In addition, the Fest features the work of outstanding artists and craftspeople from both Ireland and the Hudson Valley. There also is a wonderful children’s area with storytelling, crafts, and other activities. A wide variety of tempting food and refreshments will be available.

The beautiful Riverfront Green lies along the Hudson River immediately adjacent to MTA MetroNorth’s Peekskill train station. Ample free parking is also available.

The Fest’s website: www.hudsonvalleyirishfest.com features many pictures from last year’s event.
